No Time to Sew :-(

It’s a G- free day today (childcare) and A is on hols so it’s all systems a go go. (Well it will be once R goes to sleep!!) We are putting our place on the market soon and are getting some jobs done before hand. Plus all the usual necessities!!
Today I need to:
Pick my olives
Make soup and pies
Clear, dig and sow a strip of garden with walkable ground covers
Help with the rotary hoeing of the lawn areas
Do our budget, bills etc (this always make me feel down as I know with me on maternity leave we just don’t have the cash. It’s hard to not earn like you used to. I know it’s only for 12 months, and I wouldn’t give up this time spent with my daughter, but… AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!! Money 😦

Today I may also try R on some Farex. She’s 4 months and seeming to be feeding a lot, plus eyed off my chocolate yesterday. She has good neck/head control so I thought why not?!

Warm Wooly Baby Socks Complete!!

The socks are done!!

20130527-125808.jpg
At first I was unhappy with the top size, but now she’s wearing them, I think I’ll stick with it. The heel definitely needs to be wider though and I could finish of the toe a bit more bluntly. All in all I’m pretty pleased!

What a playground!!!!

Today I think I went to one of the best children’s playgrounds and, shock of all shocks, it is smack bang in the middle of Darling Harbour!
We regularly visit Sydney to see family and spend a lot of time in China Town Yum Cha, noodles, roast duck, BBQ pork. Mmmmmmm…
In fact as I took a photo of R’s first Yum Cha the other day

I had a sneaking suspicion that deja vu was kicking in. Sure enough, just under 3 years ago, I had photographed G’s first Yum Cha.

The genes must be strong in our family! The resemblance is amazing, as are the differences, and to top it all off, on close inspection I am wearing the same cardigan in both shots!!!

Back to the playground! My gorgeous sister-in-law has mentioned this playground a few times in the past, but this is the first time we actually bothered to go. G is right into playgrounds at the moment and went on his first flying fox the other day. We have a pretty awesome playground near us (Oddies Creek in Albury, NSW) and the Darling Harbour one was even better!!

It has a phenomenal water play area and G was enthralled.

Such a great concept and a beautiful Sydney day to make it perfect. The flying fox, giant climbing frame, giant slide, swing, sandpit and toddler slide and climbing frame were also highlights.

Yup that’s me!!!! Didn’t quite make it to the top 😉 We plan on going back tomorrow and then to the beach, so fingers crossed for a lovely day.

Warm Wooly Baby Socks

I have a beautiful 3 1/2 month old daughter who has almost freakishly long feet! They’re soft and pink and beautifully formed, but super long and narrow!!! Her dad has size 13 feet so there’s a link I’m sure!!!

I find it really hard to get socks and booties to fit her, and as winter is coming (hehe!) I thought I’d attempt some booties myself. I found so many sweet patterns on Pinterest and Ravelry but they all seem too wide and short. Some patterns I am confident adding rows to, to extend length (eg. a jumper) but most booties seemed to be shaped in ways I can’t alter!

So I decided to make up my own.

Getting started on sock 2 in the car. I love road trips for knitting!

A finished sock.

I’m not 100% happy with them yet. They fit, but are too loose around the ankles. I also had a bit of difficulty shaping the heel. I copied the ratio from a pair of socks I knitted A and it made the heel a bit too narrow. I am making Sock 2 anyway and then may rejig the pattern and post it.

Or alternatively, I’m dying to make her some legwarmers!!!! This is what happens when I’m on holidays- I can’t sew, so revert to my old friends the knitting needles!

My Little Helper

A few weeks ago I put a stained pale blue long sleeved tshirt in what I thought was a weak bleach solution to get out the stains. Instead I stripped the colouring in parts!! However being pale blue, the bleached bits kinda looked like clouds in a pale sky. So I thought ‘oooh, project’!

Using some scraps from the PJ’s I just made G, I cut out some cars and stuff. I used scraps to make a sun and fluffy cloud and started to pin them on. Then the phone rang.

I came back to find G had pinned them all in place.

Play Room

After much debate I have finally agreed with my clever man and decided our kids should share a room. They love each other and both sleep really well so the plan is to put them in together when R graduates from the cradle in our bedroom to her cot.
The room they’re going into is bigger than G’s and should easily fit their beds plus the bookshelf , change table and chest of drawers.
This means ….
Play Room yay!!!!
Our kids gave lots of fabulous toys and games, mostly (without sounding to wanky!) educational, but G’s room is so full of stuff that I have to bring things out for him as he just can’t see all he’s got. His 3rd birthday brought more great things and it’s driving me mad that they don’t have a place!
Let me know if you can think of any clever storage ideas.

My Baby’s Three

My little dude is three today! It is quite surreal to think back to when I was pregnant and all the excitement and worries. Was I going to be a good mum? How would my baby turn out? Would we do it right?

Well something must have worked because my little boy is everything a mum could want.

He tells us he loves us, he smiles at people. He asks questions (I once counted 17 in 8 minutes!), and listens to the answers. He cuddles his sister and pats his cats gently. He eats lots of fruit and veg and loves chocolate. He wants to read stories ALL the time. He rides his bike, jumps on the trampoline and plays in the mud. He loves cuggles in mum and dad’s bed. He says, “cuggle” and oblive and plants seeds in the veggie garden. He has ‘best’ friends at daycare and cuggles them when they’re sad. He laughs, he cries, he loves his grandparents and aunties and uncle.

My little boy ROCKS. Love you bubba!

Frank

20130507-160402.jpg
Meet Frank. G has been dying to ‘help’ sew, so he chose the fabric, helped stitch by putting the foot down, the needle down pressing the buttons (I operate by buttons not a pedal) and even trying to feed the fabric through. He then helped me fill it with rice!

Craft Time

It’s raining here so we have turned our kitchen floor into an impromptu studio! G loves Play School and last week they had cars to play in. So we got our creative on!20130429-112822.jpg First the supplies. 20130429-112859.jpgDisplaying the initial stages of the project. (Note the positioning of Supervisor R)

Struggling with technicalities.
